Trochanteric bursitis is a common cause of hip pain, its causes include injury to the hip, incorrect posture due to spine problems, unusual drug reactions, hip bone spurs, and surgery.
Pain often occurs during activities such as standing up or walking up stairs. Pain also can occur when the person lies on the affected area.
Treatments focus on preserving mobility, reducing inflammation and pain, and preventing recurrence. Recommendations may include cold therapy, heat therapy, and rest. Advanced treatments such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroid injections, and physical therapy can be helpful. In cases where other treatment options are not effective, surgery and excision of the trochanteric bursa may be necessary.
